The case of Noise Cancelation

“Omo oh no… I forgot my noise cancelation head-set!!!”.

That was me last weekend at the airport waiting for my flight to Vancouver. I decided to purchase an earphone instead, from the vending machine, I thought it will help me survive during my trip, beside … it will only be 4.5 hrs flight one way. And I was wrong…..

I was wrong, that flight became one of my un-comfortable flight ever list! I constantly hear the chatter, the noise, someone had a conversation about the guy she was dating, the Christmas cooking plan, etc… etc and etc…. blah. In short, I was unable to sleep, rest, let alone enjoy the flight.

I ended up purchasing “another” noise cancelation head-set (the new version) from BOSE in Vancouver. Well… Let me report to you guys, that my return flight went so much smoother and enjoyable. It was a splurge item but it was worthy, every dollar of it!!

Walking from the Science world to Granville Public Market (about 3.6 km- 45 mins according to Google Maps), I was reflecting on the case of my noise cancelation. Similar analogy in life-our daily life routine creates constant chatters, white noise, background noise, (you may call it different sound), but they are distractions. We end up unable to hear our own voice, buried away among all these noises.

I knew something misaligned with me before I took my trip. I was easily irritated with non-essential things, short temper, and had a slight hard time to focus. I realized I was missing the “noise cancelation”, and that was why I was unable to hear my voice. The constant chatters annoyed me. I stopped what I was doing, looking deep into my self and reflect through the Jade Pond at Dr.Sun Yat Sen Classical Chinese Garden.

It is important to balance in everything, work-personal life-health-finances-social life-friends-family-spiritual-religion.  We take for granted the “Noise cancelation”, but actually it is one important item to cancel the chatters in our life. Prayer, meditation, worship, journaling are some of the “noise cancelation” that I recognized. And next- prioritize things in your life, learn to recognize what matter and what does not matter. With this lesson, I would like to encourage you to practice it-get your noise cancelation and have a better mindful life.

With warm love in this holiday season,

Bombon
