Have you ever felt that you are not enough for the world, for the job, for other persons, for the culture, for society? You don’t feel you are enough and fit in. In my 35 years journey, I felt that many times. Not fit in with standard beauty, not smart enough for the team I belong to at work, not a good partner for my partner, not an ideal parent.
I am tired of this lie we tell ourselves.
We live in a society that has a tendency to compare and compete. Who is better? Who is smarter? Who is richer? Who is prettier? I asked this question myself; if God created us as His masterpiece who are we to say that we are not good enough. We literally disrespecting God’s definition of a masterpiece.
Our society puts pressure on us, most of us look on the outer looks/superficial thing as a measurement, let’s be honest, we all do that! Not only we do it to others, but worse….we do it to ourselves. How sad!
We have to learn to look past the outer/superficial thing (to others and ourselves). Cultivate our heart, learn to understand our soul, cherish the very being of us. We are not perfect- but we are God’s masterpiece, we are His precious possession (incl. our glories and flaws). Oftentimes we have a hard time to accept ourselves as is, we set our expectation so high, aiming for approval from others.
Why do we care so much for others? Because we give others the power to judge and put the value on us. We should not do that. NO!
And I am tired of doing that, I am who I am. It is not easy to not care about other’s opinions since we are social beings. Let’s find ourselves and fight this good fight, for the present is a gift.
With warm regards on this holiday season,
Bombon
