Be Daring in Life

Daring :

adjective: venturesomely bold in action or thought

I had my annual physical check-up today, love my primary care doctor. She is always personable in her approach, she asked about your general condition, your family, and sometimes we added in the most current affair at the time of visit. Quite chatty, but I do enjoy the conversation always.

2020…..who will think that we will go through a pandemic, oil price crashes, an increase of unemployment number, and prejudices of an official government on racism or racism in general. The saying “when it rains it poured” is so true for this context.

I remembered I returned from Seoul after my Chinese NY celebration to U.S.A in mid-February, just in time for Valentine and just in time for my next project at work. For the next 2 months, I was consumed with my work project. It went successful, I was pleased with the execution and result.

Then reality sit in me- March 6th; Saudi and Russia declared oil price war, March 11th; WHO announced that COVID-19 characterized as a pandemic, March 15th; most companies in the US placed a work from home order (WFH) for most of their employees, March 23rd; Houston city closed the non-essential stores and advised to stay at home policy.  On April 6th I handed over my project and made the final presentation on the 16th. April 20th; the oil price crashed, the company that I work for going through a series of reconstruction internally;  voluntary resignation, reassignment of positions, and the possibility of chapter 11. Whoa…….

I normally travel after I completed my project; to decompress, re-energize, and enjoy the world. My motto – I work to travel, that’s what I call “living”. It frustrates me that I am not able to do it this time – well not at my own timing at the moment. The countries put a lockdown and close border make it impossible to travel. So I bury myself with work, continuously. I am grateful that I have my four legs companion “Houston” always by my side through this unfamiliar time and technology that makes it possible to communicate with a loved one regardless of distance.

June comes, some parts of the countries are open; here, I start planning for my trip going home to Jakarta, the only place I can visit at the moment. It will need more planning, I have to have a health certificate, a negative result of COVID-19 test. With all the list of requirements I still proceed with my plan. My doctor called me “daring” …. my adopted Mom keeps asking me if I am sure, she worries on the long flight. I so understand their concern.

We still need to live, doing our work and activities safely regardless. Yes, there will be restrictions, but it does not mean we stop living and just stay inside the house afraid of the unknown and uncertainty.

Doing something daring does not mean to challenge life recklessly, it is doing something bold. Life is too short to always stay in the comfort zone, “the possibilities” are out there – waiting to be found and claimed. How exciting that thought is right? To know that there is a possibility out there is a splurge in life.

Don’t be afraid, everything that happens is no surprise to the Almighty, these fates are thrown at our life has to happen but the outcome of each of the fate depends on your decision. To make it good or to make it not so good.   We are a freewill being….. A wise elder lady told me once, even an unwise decision can turn into the right one, so don’t be afraid of making a decision, what matters is your intention, listen to your heart, listen to the truth in your heart.

So.. let’s be daring in our life, let’s be the best version of ourself. Learn every day… have no fear, don’t allow fear in our life. Be daring…. just be daring. I am liking the word.

We say our grace and prayer in the morning, grateful for blessings and ask for protection for the day and that’s all we need. Can I ask you a question? When was the last time you did something daring?

With so much love,

Bombon
