Bombon in Mumbai

Mumbai Meri (mine) Jaan (love life), my first trip to India was beyond my imagination!  I had an idea about India in general- dense, humid, chaotic, and spices, so I figured Mumbai will be something like that, just as some of Bollywood movies portrayed it too.

I went there for the wedding of my bestie’s cousin (I think), I can’t keep up with everyone’s name and their relation to one another. Similar way to Indo, they call everyone Uncle and Aunty :).

I did not have a proper dress for the wedding ceremony!!!! Of course we went shopping at the market. I was thrilled with the experience, seeing beautiful textiles, in an array of colors, embroidery, delicate workmanship.. mesmerizing!

I went to the south part of Mumbai after the wedding.  I stayed at The Oberoi, right in front of the Queen’s Necklace Drive. The charm of the old part of the city lured me- bringing me to a different space and time. Beautiful peoples, beautiful souls, beautiful city.

I was expecting great things on the trip and was astounded by the bursting colors and liveliness the city gave me. Colors everywhere!!!! Beyond my ration and understanding; bright oranges, pink, yellow, red, gold, bright blue, green, purple, fuchsia- you name it, they will mix it and make it the most beautiful things your eyes can see and absorb. The smell of the spices from their food; black salt from the Himalayas, cardamom, cumin, turmeric, my sense of smell and mouth palate were refreshed. I had dived in into the world of unknown once again, and oh! how I loved the feeling. My heart melted with all the charm the city gave to me. Mumbai, she is so beautiful, the goddess herself.
