Bombon in London, UK ( Part 1)

Oh… lovely! (with Brits’ accent).

I arrived in London on May 31st.  The weather was sunny but slightly chilly for my like.. Modern yet it still had its’ old charm was my first impression of London.  Beautiful Architectures, Theaters,  Townhomes, Harrods, Selfridges, Palaces, Big Ben, London Eye, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul Cathedral and famous streets ; Bond Street, Oxford Street, King Cross, Grosvenor Square, Piccadilly.

One of many things that I enjoyed while traveling was visiting the Museum, and gosh…London had all sorts of museums. My fave was the British Museum- I love that museum!

Great Britain, once a vast empire has so many artifacts from all over the world wherever they sat their presence. The Brit Museum reminded me of MET in NY-USA. I also heard good things about Natural Science Museum but did not have the opportunity to visit (maybe next time).

Another interesting museum to visit is the Sherlock Holmes Museum. For all Sherlock fans, this one will please you.  I enjoyed my visit very much. I was able to picture where Holmes and Watson lived, what their living room looked like, their study, and his odd, weird collections of knickknacks.

Some of the must do things while in London.  Afternoon tea-it is from 3 pm to 6 pm. The best ones are The Ritz or The Wolseley both located on Piccadilly Street (next to each other). I went to Cafe Concerto as well- but I would not recommend there for afternoon tea. One other unique place is Candela Tea Room in the Kensington area. It’s a small unique tea and coffee place, which is worth a visit-beautiful place.  Kensington Palace- You can walk to Kensington Palace after having your afternoon tea. The garden is located next to the shop.  The Princess Diana’s Memorial Garden- This is also nearby as well.  The Maroush- Across the entrance of the Princess Diana’s memorial garden, there is a Lebanese restaurant called Maroush (Randa by Maroush), I highly recommend it for lunch.

Gardens- There are lots of gardens in London; Hyde Park, Green Park, Berkeley Park, St. John Park, St. James Park and more parks. You have to admit the Brits are superior in their parks and gardens.

Stamford Bridge Stadium- During this trip, I also visited the Stamford Bridge stadium of Chelsea FC. Isaac, my brother from Africa and from another mother, is a huge fan of this team. As a good sister from Indo, I deliberately sent him several great pictures of the stadium hoping he would get annoyed that I was there and he wasn’t :). It worked!!!

Bath- The first serious novel I read growing up was Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I fell in love immediately after reading it, and it has been a habit to re-read it once a year, so visiting Bath was a must for me. It took me about 2 hrs by train to reach Bath from London. I left 9 am in the morning and returned at 6 pm in the evening. They have a round-trip train schedule for every 2 hours so it was a perfect day trip. Bath was lovely. It’s an old charming city,  exactly how Jane Austen depicted in her novel. The Pump-Room- You should visit the Pump-room, depicted in the Persuasion movie (Jane Austen-BBC masterpiece).  The Crescent is also beautiful, and there are lots more beautiful old architectures.

There are lots more to discover in London but from this trip, I think I covered a pretty good chunk of landmarks. There is always a next time to visit London, so until then….
